Private Lessons

Private Pottery Lessons can be booked for any length of time and they make a great experience gift. Perfect for beginners, you don’t need to have done any pottery before.

Who - Lessons can be for individuals, friends, couples, families, and groups up to 8 people

How does it work - On the day, you will be guided through one or two different techniques, depending on how long your workshop is. Most people choose 2 hours, but we can also do 1 hour, 1.5 hours or 3 hours.

We have 4 potters wheels

1 to 4 people - You can decided whether you want to just try throwing or hand-building. If you want to try a bit of both, please book 2 hours or more.

5 to 8 people - If you all want to have a go on the wheels, you will need to book 2 or 3 hours. You will all get to try throwing a pot each on the wheels, as well hand-building pots at the tables. If you only want to book one hour, you will work at the tables on a hand-building project.

What’s included - The price of a private lesson includes pre-lesson preparation, the clay you use and glazes, two separate firings, and the additional time it takes to finish your pots.

What you make - Throwing on the wheel can be difficult for some people, but it is a lot of fun! We guide you step-by-step through the whole process, one step at a time. Not everyone gets a pot off the wheel on their first try but most people do with a bit of help!

Hand-building is generally easier, and we will show you a technique, like pinch-pots, and you can decide what you are going to make, like a mug, a jug, a tea-light holder or something decorative like an owl or an apple. We give you the process steps, and you get to be creative with what you make (and we can always give you ideas if you are stuck!)

Pot collection - Your work will be ready to collect approximately 6 weeks later

Age restrictions - 6 years old. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (we offer discounts for little ones!)

When - Lessons can usually be offered during the week, and some weekends. We get booked up fast so send us an email and please let us know when you would like to attend.

Prices

One person - £60 an hour, £110 for two hours, £150 for three hours

Two people sharing - £120 an hour, £200 for two hours, £270 for three hours

Three people sharing - £180 an hour, £300 for two hours, £405 for three hours

Four people sharing - £200 an hour, £360 for two hours, £480 for three hours

Five People Sharing - £250 per hour, £450 for two hours, £600 for three hours

For groups of six to eight people sharing - £40 per person per hour

Please say in your email how many people you would like to book for, and if you would all like to have a go at throwing. Sophie will then tell you how many hours would be best for your group/party.
